Jaggery Cubes - A new product

Jaggery which is used as sweetener is produced using traditional methods!  It is often used as a replacement for refined Sugar!  Jaggery sometimes directly consumed for its supposed digestive and other health benefits after meals.

Jaggery is usually sold in blocks of size of a Cricket ball or cuboid of sizes 6x6x6 cu.cm or 3x3x2 cu cm.  These are meant to be used as sweetener in preparation of sweet savories. However, if one needs to eat them as “SWEET”, then the block of jaggery need to be crushed and a piece is eaten.  Which is mundane process and most of it becomes powder and eating powdered Jaggery is cumbersome.  So, Why there are NO “jaggery cubes” just like the “sugar cubes”?

Jaggery Cubes can be all new SKU; fresh in market!  At present  startup company can be launch this innovative product!!

Two product variants of jaggery Cubes:

  1.   Just like Sugar cubes, Jaggery Cubes are used to sweeten either Coffee or Tea!
  2.   Jaggery Cubes as a SWEET!   Yes, this is a very good proposition keeping in mind various benefits of the Jaggery.   The benefits of eating Jaggery are exhaustive:
            • Prevents constipation.
            • Detoxes the liver.
            • Treats flu-like symptoms.
            • Blood purifier.
            • Boosts immunity.
            • Cleanses the body.
            • Prevents anemia.
            • Boosts intestinal health.
            • Cools the stomach.
            • Controls blood pressure.
            • Prevents respiratory problems.
            • Relieves joint pain.
            • Weight loss.
            • Good source of energy.
Projecting Jaggery itself as a SWEET, instead of sweetener has tremendous market potential.  As I know, presently there are no companies is selling Jaggery as a SWEET! Can be experiment add ginger or other herbs. The first company to launch will capture the market and will be the pioneer!!

Invest just Rs.3,500/- and start earning from day One

Here is a self employment idea that requires very minimal investment. Generally, this business requires one time of investment of Rs.30,000 to Rs. 80,000 depending on the locality.  And monthly recurring expenses of Rs.3,000 to 10,000.  However if the same thing is done in a innovative way, then it  requires hardly an investment of Rs.3,000.  More over there are no monthly recurring expenses!   Best part is that one can earn back their investment in just one week time.

So what is this self employment idea?

Yes, Providing Clothe Ironing Service at DOOR STEP!  sounds interesting ?  The equipment required are Steam Iron Box or regular heavy Iron box, Iron Stand and a power extension board. All there items would cost around Rs.3,000 to Rs.4,500.

[Courtesy: Internet ]

Ironing clothes is an easy skill that can be learned in a very short span of time.  With little common sense any one can iron the clothes.  Once the items are purchased, the service provider can go door to door offering the Ironing service.   The power outlet in the customers house can be used to draw the power for the Iron box.  The customer may object for allowing the power outlet to be used.  However, to compensate the power loss for the customer, the fee for Ironing a pair of cloth need to be discounted by Rupees one or two than the market value.  Once established regular fee can be charged as the service is being offered at the Door step.  Earlier door to door step service was not possible as the iron boxes were heavy 5/6 kgs.  But with steam iron boxes the weight is reduced dramatically and the quality of the ironing is improved due to steam!!

This business is every green one.  As long as humans wear clothes, there is need for Ironing services.  No one will ever make loss in this business or run out of opportunities.

This is one of the easiest self employment business to start for Freshers or an unemployed people.

Taxi pickup service for 2 Wheeler

Some times it happen that while you winding for the day from the office, you may get a call from friends to join for a surprise Cocktail party!  It could be celebrations for some reason!.  However, you are using bike to commute to office. Since its a cocktail party, it is violation of the rule to ride bike after intoxication.  If you attend the party and don't take any liquor and friends may feel bad about it and it would be subdued celebrations!  If the party was planned in advance, then travel arrangements could have been made.

So what is the solution?

There are already cargo carriage services using Auto or even minivan. The same can be used to carry the two wheeler along with the owner.  Call it as Taxi service for bikes. The carriage Auto which are usually free in the night time can be used to carry bike and rider.  Even Omni Van [cargo] or Eeco can be used.

The existing taxi service aggregators either app based or non-app based, can offer this service to the customers.   This can generate employment along with avoiding any drunken driving cases.

Note: Proper provision has to be made in the Carrying vehicle to easily load and unload the two wheeler.

Massage Chair - Mobile Unit

Courtesy: Amazon.in

Massage Chairs can be generally found in the Malls, in cities!  One can avail the massaging services by paying a service fee.  Outside the mall, there are standalone shops offering massage service through the mechanized chairs.  Not sure if there are going to be sufficient customers to make a profit out of it.

Instead of a static units, why don't make them mobile.   The chair could be easily accommodated in a Omni van or echo van.  Install the chair in a van and provide door to door service.  In the age of shortage of time, i think mobile units would make more sense than the standalone units.

Investment for all new items (chair n van) would be 5 to 6 lakh.
Investment for used items (chair n van) could be around 2 to 3 lakh

ROI can be easily achieved in 6 months

Its a business solution for an un-employed person or an entrepreneur.

Idli/Dosa Batter: Expedite the Fermentation Process

"Idli Sambar" or "Dosa Chutney" is the most sought after item for Breakfast especially in South Indian states.  For the preparation of soft and tasty Idli/Dosa, the fermentation of batter matters a lot!  A batter without adequate fermentation may spoil the taste of Idli/Dosa! right?

In Indian house holds, the batter is prepared the previous evening and is kept out (of the refrigerator) for the fermentation to occur over night.  However, for proper fermentation, the environment should be warmer.  In summer days sufficient the fermentation takes place over night.  But the problem is 'Rainy' or 'Winter' season. Due to cooler environment, adequate fermentation doesn't take place.  Isn't it?

So how to expedite the process of fermentation?

Here is an innovative idea!  If you have either a Convection Owen or a conventional (grill) Owen, then it is a matter of few simple steps:
  1. Do the below steps, the previous night of preparing breakfast.
  2. Pre-heat the Owen (Convection/ Conventional/ Grill) for 30-60 seconds.
  3. Open the door and check if it is warmer in side the Owen.
  4. Now place the pack/bowl containing batter inside the Owen and close the door.
  5. Switch of the Owen.
  6. The next day morning take out from the Owen and you have sufficiently fermented batter for making delightful "Dosa" or "Idli"!
  7. The same process can be used to expedite the fermentation process of Curd/Yogurt

Pl note: Micro Owen can’t be used to expedite the process of the fermentation.

DCH - Direct Current Home

Have you ever looked at power ratings of the electronic appliances that you use daily.  One of the most common thing with many of the electronic gadgets is that they all have adapters.  Which means their power requirement is very low.  Earlier appliances used 220v directly, without any stepping down.  However, these days electronic gadgets work using Direct Current [DC], which is actually step-down from 220v!  So, what?

First lets look into energy consumption by typical electronic appliances in modern house hold:

Appliance
Input Voltage
Input Current
Output Voltage
Output Current

LED bulb
220V
5A
4.5V
2A
Mobile Charger
100-240v
0.15A
5V
1.0A
LED TV 32”
100-240v
1.4A
19.5
3.05A
Set-top Box
100-240v
0.8A
12V
2.0A
Emergency light charger
150V-270v
NA
8V
350mA
Piano keyboard Adapter
100-240v
0.3 A
12v
0.7A
Battery Charger (NiMH)
100-240v
NA
1.2v
200mA
Laptop Adapter
100-240v
1.4A
19.5v
3.05A

From the table it is evident that many of the devices use adapters to covert Alternating Current (AC) into Direct Current (DC), as well step down from 220V to 12v.  When there is conversion of energy from one type to another type, there is considerable loss of energy.  Isn't it possible to stop this loss and conserve energy?

Yes. It is possible to conserve energy!

Many of the residential units or commercial buildings have Two separate electrical wiring system!  One power supply is from the Central Grid and the second one for the UPS.  Isn't?
Similarly why not have a another Wiring system exclusively for DC?  (Actually, UPS wiring can be  replaced by DC wiring system).  And for the DC wiring the power source can Roof top Solar Power panels!.  If DC current that is generated by 'solar power panel' is directly used for DC electronic devices, then the loss of energy can be prevented and energy conserved.

Electrification of Rural house holds

And now coming to electrification of rural house holds.  The DCH (Direct Current Home) can be a boon. How?

1. No need to install electric poles and pull wires from sub-station / central grid to each and every rural house holds.
2. Hundreds of crores of rupees can be saved.
3. Making DCH home is faster and cheaper.

Now, what could be the power requirement for rural households?

For a one BHK, house the maximum lighting required is at hall, kitchen, room, bathroom and toilet.  Total wattage of all the LED bulbs would be around 12+9+9+5+3 = 38w.

Now that mobile phones are ubiquitous (Thanks to Digital India Movement) and linked to government subsidy schemes. Lets assume that most of the house holds have Mobile phones and charger/adapter.  Mobile charger/adapter would hardly consume around 5W power.

So that total power requirement for lighting and mobile charging purpose would be around 50W (including any wastage).  If the house hold has a TV, then the the power requirement would be another 50-60W.  And another 20-25W requirement for setup box.  So the household requirement for basic lighting and LED TV would be around 125W.

Just for power requirement of 50-150w aren't we wasting resources by providing infrastructure and Wiring for 220V?  In the process of step-up and  step-down considerable amount of energy is wasted!
When most of the basic electric appliances require Direct Current, then why should the household have 220V wiring especially in RURAL/REMOTE areas?

So we have DC current, what about the appliances?

For basic lighting purpose, already LED bulbs are available which use DC current.

For mobile charging USB ports can be used.
Even 12V ceiling/Table fans are available in market.
There are lot of DC appliances available on the Internet.

Lets not waste electric energy produced by solar panels, by converting to AC current.  And once again convert back AC to DC at house holds(for basic needs).  Lets conserve energy by designing DC wired Home and DC appliances

DCH is could be a gaint leap in conserving home and reducing Global warming effects!!
